Engrossed in a good book at a local library in Donegal

Donegal County Council is delighted to announce that from Monday, September 7 Donegal Library Service will be offering a new schedule of opening hours which will result in longer opening times in many local libraries across the county.

These new hours will assist in continuing to offer a quality service that will meet the changing needs of the people of Donegal. The new hours will be implemented at all local libraries and the Central Library in Letterkenny will introduce these new hours in the coming months.

The new schedule of opening hours means that local libraries will be extending their opening hours in the morning and details on specific opening times for each library is available on www.donegallibrary.ie .

The new schedule of opening hours will see the introduction of ‘Scheduled Time’, ‘Open Door Time’ and ‘All the Time’.

Scheduled Time

Libraries now offer much more than books. An important part of the service is about meeting the changing needs of communities by providing programmed events and activities for all ages. These activities include bookclubs, summer reading programmes, rhyme time sessions, local history talks, exhibitions, art workshops and computer classes. To help maximise the use of our libraries by all the community we have introduced ‘Scheduled Time’ were we will be offering dedicated hours and support for a wide range of programmes for specific community organisations and school groups.

Teachers and local groups or organisations who wish to avail of library service during scheduled hours are asked to contact their local library to make an appointment.

Open Door Time

These libraries will still continue to provide quality services during ‘Open Door Time’ which is accessible to all members of the public.  As part of this ‘Open Door Time’ opening hours will be extended in the morning in many of the local libraries across the county. Specific opening times for each library is available on www.donegallibrary.ie.

All the Time
